This is
a new perio probe that I found at the Chicago Midwinter Meeting. The unique
feature of this probe is the color coding of the first 3 mm is green, a red
band at 5 mm and continuous red at 7 to 10 mm. The colors are much easier for a
patient to see and understand than the black markings on a regular probe. It
makes patient education much more dramatic. When the green is gone, there is a
problem! Bleeding and/or pus with any color is a problem! It shows up
especially well on an intraoral video camera. The probe is NOT meant to be
disposable, and the colors stand up to the autoclave. (Perio Wise, Inc.)
