TECHNIQUE The technique is simple. Using a PerioWise
probe, gently insert the probe tip into the gingival crevice and walk the probe
360° around each tooth or dental implant, or probe in your
usual manner. PerioWise probes are safe to use around dental implants.

| As you probe
it will be important to see whether the green band is visible with and without
bleeding. If the green is visible and there is no bleeding there is health,
just keep probing. If the green is visible but there is bleeding there is
gingivitis. The screening record and report should be marked with the
sextant(s) that has gingivitis. Notations of recession, mucogingival problems,
furcation involvement and tooth mobility can be placed in "remarks" on the
screening record if desired. If a red mark is reached you are probing 5 or 6mm.
depending on which calibration of the probe you are using. In either case,
reaching a red mark is the "trigger" for performing a complete periodontal
examination and charting. Mark both the screening record and report
"Periodontitis". Then perform a complete periodontal examination as soon as
time permits. |
